Public Construction and Housing

The increase in the number of homeless coupled with the lack of public infrastructure provides a stark contrast with the government provided public statistics.  It has been made clear by various studies that both the homeless population as well as the lack of basic services in urban centers is growing in both number and diversity.  For this reason, it is necessary to call attention to this problem in order that measures be immediately taken to fight this problem.

The challenge of planning and effectively executing integrated strategies that involve all participants as well as proportioning the most effective use of the available resources, has offered the entire population the opportunity of collaborating with the initiative.

80% of our funds have been used in communities with a high incidence of homelessness and lack of infrastructure.  The remaining 20% has been used in smaller communities with the same problems.

In each community, a consultation process is encouraged and help is provided so that the participants meet so that they involve themselves in the planning and decision making processes.

The plan is based on the following principles:

  • Work on the bases of the existing resources and services, including possible improvements on old programs
  • Identify both needs and potential in the community
  • Give priority to the specific necessities in the action plans
  • Identify the possible sources of income, sustainability, and reproducibility of the program.

With this experience, Congregation Mariana Trinitaria, A.C.has shown itself to be a catalyst in bringing together the participants implicated in questions of homelessness and lack of infrastructure for both planning activities as well as coordinating existing resources.

In some cases, it has been difficult to achieve and maintain the participation of the agents and of the groups of development.  Currently these and other needs are being identified through and evaluation process and various strategies for exchanging information.

For the growth of Congregation Mariana Trinitaria, A.C. on both national and international levels, efforts are currently being centered on guaranteeing that the communities will be able to benefit from he experiences and achievements of other communities.  For this reason, a series of practical cases have been designed for the evaluation of the preliminary results as well as their impact on the index of homelessness and need for infrastructure and to identify new focuses that allow for a wider application that could be of great interest and use to the participating communities.
